Tea cakes with Apple Cinnamon Jelly
There is
a wide variety and texture of tea cakes available in the market. If you go to
India the tea cakes are more of a chunky texture much like cookies or biscuits
made of flour. The famous tea cakes that are quite popular are the sponge
variety often called as muffins or plum cakes etc.
The
sponge cake is perfect in sweetness and jells well with tea. Usually, the tea
in India is milk tea with all the flavours infused like ginger and cardamom
pods making the tea very aromatic. Whereas around the world tea is preferred as
it is without the milk and to match it with cakes is quite a difficult job.
Usually, people are served with cakes according to the flavour of the tea. For
example if you are taking green tea you will often be advised to have a mint
flavoured macaroon as it tastes best with it. For those who like herb infused
tea then plum cakes with cherries or any kind of berry cake is preferred. For
the flower infused teas usually chunky cookies go well with it. Keeping this
generalisation aside you can choose whatever that best suits your taste buds.
The apple
cinnamon jelly tea cakes are the best and they go with almost any kind of tea
whether it is the Indian “garam masala chai” or an English tea, you will
definitely like it. The apple jelly made in a very traditional way is infused
with aromatic cinnamon sticks that stay like that in the jar helping in
prolonged shelf life of the jelly. Peachhut jellies are the best and they know exactly how to balance the flavour.
Too much cinnamon will make the jelly go bitter in taste and less of it will
not be that impactful. The Peach Hut’s apple cinnamon jelly is a must try. You can experiment with these jellies on any
kind of cake. I like to layer the cakes with the apple cinnamon jelly and
sometimes also blend it in the icing to give a sour sweet taste to the cake.
Usually, I cover my homemade
chocolate muffins or sponge cake with this and the guests go crazy. To your
surprise the jelly tastes best on hot cakes. So if you have cakes that have
just come out of your oven, top them with the jelly and get ready to hear the
praises. I love using this jelly on lava cakes as well. The molten chocolate in
the inside and the jelly on the outside goes so well that it becomes the hot
favourite of everybody.
If you
love making cakes then add this small little twist and you will love your
regular cakes even more.
